When it comes to finding a Mother's Day gift for an Aquarian, Susan Miller, author of "The Year Ahead 2024," exclusively tells Women.com it's best to focus on more practical gifts, as people who have a sun or moon placement in this sign are known for their pragmatism. That's why electronics, like headphones, earbuds, or e-readers (such as a Kindle, on which there's a particularly spicy new novel to get stuck into!) make great presents.
Looking for more of an experiential gift? Miller suggests an organic or vegetarian restaurant for something a little different. "[Aquarius] appreciate the out-of-the ordinary, so experiences like Cirque du Soleil; things that are off-the-beaten path or very modern, like a light show," she added. Miller also recommends do-good gifts that give back to people in need, as Aquarius is known for their dedication to humanitarianism and eco-living. Pisces (February 19 to March 20)
When it comes to a Mother's Day gift for a Piscean, it's all about the visuals, says Miller. She notes that Pisces people are very driven by the right side of their brain; they have a particular appreciation for the arts, such as music, art, and poetry. Miller actually recommends giving a gift that's symbolic to tug at the heartstrings, as well as handmade gifts or something from a vintage store for someone who falls under this moon sign.
Miller notes that a lot of Pisceans also have a great love of photography. "Get them a beautiful art book for their coffee table or a picture of you," she proposed, also suggesting a visit to a film festival as an experience gift. A Polaroid camera may also make a great Mother's Day present for the Pisces in your life.
Aries (March 21 to April 19)
Looking to buy a gift for an Aries moon mom? Then try a visit to a salon or luxury haircare products. "Give them a haircut at a top salon or a beautiful brush or hair products from a top salon, they will love you forever," Susan Miller tells us, noting that people who fall under the fiery Aries sign tend to be very interested in their tresses.
Another way to go for the Aries mom in your life is to focus on one of their best traits: their bravery. Because they tend to be on the adventurous side, Miller recommends treating an Aries sun or moon to an activity day or vacation. That could mean a day on a hiking trail or a chance to do something sporty and competitive, such as a game of tennis (just make sure you get your Tenniscore fashion on!), or a group run.
Taurus (April 20 to May 20)
For those looking to celebrate Mother's Day with a Taurus mom, focus on their love of home. Taurus can be a real homebody, so think of gifts that can make their home life a little more comfortable, like houseplants or decorative ornaments. Miller also suggests treating that special Taurus sun or moon to a meeting with a landscape artist. "[They] will come and improve her property with flowers and perennials, make it really beautiful. They would be happy forever with that," she shared. Moreover, many Taurus moons are incredibly sensual and feel a strong connection to music and art, so Miller recommends creating a custom playlist, which is a particularly good gift idea if you're on a budget.
Miller also suggested a luxury spa day, or passing along something sweet. "Taurus also loves chocolate, so they'd appreciate something like imported chocolates. You could also make them chocolate fudge brownies," she suggests.
Gemini (May 21 to June 21)
For those beloved Geminis in your life, Susan Miller recommends heading out for an experience for Mother's Day. "A [Gemini] would appreciate a course to learn cooking [or another language] because they're always curious and want to learn something," she said to Women.com, so it may be time to throw on an apron or get to saying "Oui! Oui!"
If that's not quite up their street, though, Miller also tells us that a creative writing course could make a great gift. That's because Geminis tend to get bored easy but are great at communication, so it makes a good outlet for them to be able to express themselves and stay entertained at the same time. Similarly, for those who like to write, personalized stationary or a custom initialed pen could be just the ticket.
Cancer (June 21 to July 22)
Known for their caring qualities, it's not surprising that moms with moon in cancer (which is their ruling planet) are incredibly nurturing. They are very involved in the emotional well-being of their children and family, and enjoy providing a loving environment for them.
For that reason, when it comes to Mother's Day Gifts, think of the kitchen. Susan Miller tells Women.com that a lot of people who fall under the Cancer moon sign enjoy cooking, which means the perfect gift may be something like good quality pots and pans or a spice rack. Miller also shared that Cancers can be keen foodies and love to eat, so try a box of chocolate dipped strawberries, a meal kit, or a box of fancy chocolates.
If the Cancer you know bucks the trend and isn't so kitchen inclined though, Miller shared that they do tend to love family vacation. But if that's a little out of your budget, try a framed family photo of a past vacation for a sentimental yet cheaper alternative. They're also appreciate a family picnic, so try organizing a get-together or, if that's out of the question, gift them with a luxury picnic basket or hamper..
Leo (July 23 to August 22)
Similar to Leo suns, Leo moons appreciate feeling important. When it comes to choosing the perfect gift for someone with either placement this Mother's Day, Miller advises us think of luxury. She recommends a good quality bag, such as an evening clutch, that they can enjoy during a night on the town. "Whatever you're going to get them, get it from a very good retail store. They'll be disappointed if it came from somewhere ordinary. Get them something from Saks Fifth Avenue or Bergdorf Goodman," she advised.
Leos also enjoy nights out where they can get dressed up, which is why Miller suggests gifting tickets to a Broadway show or even a ballet. "They're very into culture and they admire the arts so much," she explains to Women.com. Equally, a makeup masterclass or session with a makeup artist may also be an ideal gift, as it's perfect before a classy night out.
Virgo (August 23 to September 22)
Buying a gift for a Virgo? Then you have quite a few Mother's Day gift options. According to Susan Miller, Virgos are all about keeping themselves organized and looking their best. That's why you can't go wrong with a spa day or spa treatment. Other gift ideas if you're looking to flash the cash a little? A new laptop (who wouldn't love that?) or something to help them stay organized, like a smartwatch. She adds that Virgos also love to plan a long, elaborate trip, so, if you can, send the Virgo mom in your life on an extended trip.
If you don't quite have that budget, Miller has solid ideas that are more wallet friendly. She suggests helping them out by running their errands, or treating them to the newest book release as a gift — and there are plenty of new releases to enjoy.
Libra (September 23 to October 22)
Ruled by the planet Venus, Libra tends to be more traditionally feminine and value aesthetics. When it comes to gifting, Miller suggests buying a mother with Libra sun or moon a perfume you know they love. "A piece of jewelry would hit the spot, too," she says. Just make sure you're choosing quality items, though, as Libras tend to prefer real gold pieces. As Libras also tend to be very sociable people who love hosting others, gifts they can share with others are also a good option, Miller adds. This could be a really nice serving platter or a selection of high quality wine glasses.
For those who like to gift experiences, you'll be happy to know that Libras love these types of gifts. Libras would appreciate a ticket to a ballet or show, according to Miller. "[Another option] could be a nice dinner with her best friend, or a great dinner in a wonderful restaurant," she shared.
Scorpio (October 23 to November 21)
For Scorpios moms, keep in mind that they don't like too much attention, so whatever gift you give, keep things a little more understated so they won't feel overwhelmed. "A good gift might be a [neutral] tote for summer, in a color like white or beige; or a beautiful straw bag; that's not too bulky that goes with everything and looks nice," Susan Miller shares with Women.com.
Other simpler, yet still meaningful gift ideas for a Scorpio sun or moon could be a nice blanket or a throw, while a heartfelt photobook featuring pictures of you both is another sentimental way to go without breaking the bank. Since the fixed water sign is known for its emotional depth, they'll feel truly appreciated if you take the time to curate these memories for them. You could also write a poem. Not only will it be free, but they'll be totally touched.
For foodie Scorpios, Miller recommends keeping things simple there, too. "They love good food; they'd love a quality wine paired with a good steak and salad. They don't like it fussy," she says.
Sagittarius (November 22 to December 21)
To get the perfect gift for a Sagittarius on Mother's Day, go for something that they can use to further their adventurous sides. Miller tells us that many Sagittarians love travelling, so they'll appreciate clothing items that won't wrinkle in a suitcase, as well as something like a cashmere shawl to keep the warm on an airplane. Also on the to buy list for this sign? A suitcase or travel bags. If you're really looking to push the boat out though, then treat them to a whole trip.
"Sagittarius might benefit from a practical travel gift like a Swiss Army Knife because they travel so far," Miller told us. She also advises treating them to gym gear, seeing as Sagittarians are so active. Something like a zip wire experience could also make an unforgettable gift for this ever-moving moon sign.
Capricorn (December 22 to January 19)
To buy a gift for a Capricorn, think traditional. Susan Miller says that people who have this earth sign placement in their sun or moon often have a passion for tradition and things that are more classic. That's why they may enjoy something like a trench coat, gold jewelry, or a high-quality watch that won't go out of style. Scouring a vintage store or a charity store may be a good way to go to source your Mother's Day gifts for this sign.
Capricorns are also known for their passion for history, so you could also spend your money on a historical book, either fiction or non-fiction. "They [also] love to work, so something practical like a case for their computer made with beautiful leather, or a padded sleeve that they could slip into their tote is good," Miller adds.
